The autorickshaw has been one of India’s most recognizable icons. The sputtering motorised three-wheeler, whose fare cost less than half of a taxi is the backbone of the urban transit system for millions of Indians owing to its convenience and affordability. Roughly, 2.5 million autos are plying across India daily. In medium-sized cities (population between 1 and 4 million), there were approximately 15,000 to 30,000 autos, while in the larger ones (population greater than 4 million), the number rose to more than 50,000. Autos cover an average of approximately 229 million trips per day. This was predicted to rise to more than double, to 482 million by 2031.
At OOHTO we attach a light emitting diode (LED) display boards to the rear of autos, to display advertisements. Autos are also equipped with state-of-the-art GPS systems, this helps to track the auto to assess the traffic it passed through, and the eyeballs the advertisements received. The views of the advertisements are measurable – what we call the visibility index through a program called The Eye Reach. This metric helps the advertisers to estimate the realistic return on their investments.
